The Truth about Pills
Regency Medical Research just finished up a study on vitamin pills.
Absorption of the vitamins contained in the pill is an essential element in determining the efficiency of the product.
In each test, one tablet of each brand was placed in either water (25 ml at 25C) or white distilled vinegar (25 ml at 25C). The flask was gently shaken at 5 minute intervals over a period of 1 hour. The appearance of the mass of the tablet and the solution were observed and noted throughout the course of the experiment. Tests were repeated 4 - 6 times.
Brand 1: Pale orange oval;
Brand 2: Silver oval;
Brand 3: Bright red shiny oval;
Brand 4: Pale green oval with dark flecks;
Brand 5: Bright red shiny round.
In all tests, the tablets failed to dissolve. The residues were generally gray/white with globules of other colored material interspersed. These globules were most likely oil soluble material such as beta-carotene. All samples, both in water and vinegar, exhibited a scum on the top of the liquid. The liquid above the solid mass varied in color and composition from almost clear (Brand 3, vinegar and water), through a pale yellow solution (Brand 4, water) to a thick red emulsion (Brand 5, vinegar and water).
This simple test allows you to test the rate at which various brands of vitamin pills dissolve and are absorbed by the body.
Vitamin Pill Absorption Test
1. Place a vitamin pill in a shallow, clear container.
2. Next, pour enough white table vinegar into the container so that the pill is completely covered. (A test standard as set by the American Medical Association.)
3. After you've poured the vinegar into the container, set a timer for one-half hour (30 mins).
4. After one-half hour has passed, check the container and look at the vitamin pill. How much of pill has dissolved? (By dissolved, we mean has the pill disappeared in the vinegar, the way sugar or salt "disappears" in water).
What does the pill look like?
Can you still see the outline of the pill's original shape?
Is the white vinegar still clear, or has it become cloudy from the pill's dyes and fillers?
5. If the vitamin pill hasn't broken down completely and become part of the vinegar solution in thirty minutes, the nutrients it contains are probably not getting absorbed in your digestive tract. The undissolved parts of the pill will be flushed from your system, and the nutrients in it will be wasted

All tests performed with leading brands of multi-vitamin supplement tablets demonstrated that the tablets disintegrated to varying degrees, but they did not dissolve. The disintegration resulted in the appearance of a thick, chalky precipitate. The AMA suggests that if a tablet does not dissolve after 30 minutes, then it is probably not dissolving in the stomach and is not being absorbed.

St. John's Wort
St. John's Wort Uses
Scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of St. John's wort for depression is inconsistent. An analysis of the results of 37 clinical trials concluded that St. John's wort may have only minimal beneficial effects on major depression. However, the analysis also found that St. John's wort may benefit people with minor depression; these benefits may be similar to those from standard antidepressants. Overall, St. John's wort appeared to produce fewer side effects than some standard antidepressants.
St. John's wort has also been studied in the treatment of other mood disorders, such as severe depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and seasonal affective disorder (SAD.) It's also been used for insomnia, PMS, menopausal symptoms, and eczema. However, studies on St. John's wort for these uses have not shown solid evidence of benefit.
St. John's Wort Warnings
Side effects: At recommended doses, St. John's wort generally does not cause side effects. Uncommon side effects of St. John's wort include anxiety, dry mouth, sensitivity to sunlight, dizziness, confusion, stomach upset, headache, gastrointestinal symptoms, sexual problems, tiredness and fatigue.
Risks: Depression is a serious and potentially life-threatening disease. Never try to treat it on your own without the help of an expert. Given the lack of evidence about its safety, St. John's wort is not recommended for children or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Interactions: You should not take St. John's wort if you're using antidepressants, birth control pills, blood thinners, medicines for HIV, cancer drugs, cyclosporine, or digoxin. St. John's wort may interfere with how these drugs work.

Donkey and the Well
I got this story a couple days ago and just had to share it...
One day a farmer's donkey fell into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL OF THE STORY
Lets be honest, most if not all of us have been that donkey in that well. Its how we handle the dirt that keeps hitting us the really defines who we are and what we stand for.
Recently, with my employment situation, I been feeling a little donkey in the well. And like the donkey, when "dirt" gets dumped on me, I shake it off and keep moving.
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake all the negativity, opposition, hatred and worry off and take a step up.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
- Forgive - free your heart from hatred.
- Don't Worry - you mind can't look forward if your worried.
- Simplify your life and appreciate what you have.
- Give More - to family, friends and charities
- Expect less - do everything for the right reasons.

We’re all talking to ourselves every moment of our lives, except during certain portions of our sleeping cycle. We’re seldom even aware that we’re doing it.
We all have a running commentary in our heads on events and our reactions to them. - Be aware of the silent conversation you have with yourself. Are you a nurturing coach or a critic? Do you reinforce your own success or negate it? Are you comfortable saying to yourself, “That’s more like it”. “Now we’re in the groove.” “Things are working out well.” “I am reaching my financial goals.” “I’ll do it better next time.”
- When winners fail, they view it as a temporary inconvenience, a learning experience, an isolated event, and a stepping-stone instead of a stumbling block.

A mark of an individual with healthy self-esteem is the ability to spend time alone, without constantly needing other people around.

This is especially true with things you fear. Find someone who has conquered what you fear and learn from him or her. When you make a mistake in life, or get ridiculed or rejected, look at mistakes as detours on the road to success, and view ridicule as ignorance. After a rejection, take a look at your BAG. B is for Blessings. Things you are endowed with that you often take for granted like life itself, health, living in an abundant country, family, friends, career. A is for accomplishments. Think of the many things you are proud of that you have done so far. And G is for Goals. Think of your big dreams and plans for the future that motivate you. If you took your BAG – blessings, accomplishments and goals – to a party, and spread them on the floor, in comparison to all your friends and the people you admire, you’d take your own bag home, realizing that you have as much going for yourself as anyone else. Always view rejection as part of one performance, not as a turndown of the performer. And, enjoy those special meetings with yourself. Spend this Saturday doing something you really want to do. I don’t mean next month or someday.
This Saturday enjoy being alive and being able to do it. You deserve it. There will never be another you.
This Saturday will be spent. Why not spend at least one day a week on You! Action Idea: Go for one entire day and night without saying anything negative to yourself or to others. Make a game of it. If a friend or colleague catches you saying something negative, you must put ½ dollar in a drawer or container toward a dinner or evening out with that person. Do this for one month and see who has had to pay the most money toward the evening.
